Anna University Makes 30-Hour Career Training Mandatory for Final-Year Students

Anna University has announced that all final-year students across its four campuses will be required to complete a 30-hour career guidance programme from the 2026-27 academic session. The initiative has been introduced to strengthen students' industry readiness by providing training in technical, communication, and professional skills before they participate in campus placements and job interviews.

Anna University Introduces Mandatory Career Guidance Programme

The university has launched the new programme to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations. Designed by the Centre for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC), the training will equip students with practical knowledge and essential workplace skills required for successful careers. The programme will cover technical competencies, personality development, communication, and career planning to improve students' placement opportunities and overall employability.

Skills Covered Under Anna University Career Guidance Programme

The 30-hour programme has been designed to provide comprehensive career preparation through technical and professional development modules. The curriculum is intended to help students perform confidently during recruitment processes while also preparing them for higher studies and entrepreneurial opportunities. Students enrolled in the programme will receive training in the following areas:

  • Problem-solving techniques
  • Coding and technical assessments
  • Resume writing
  • Soft skills and communication
  • Presentation skills
  • Conflict resolution
  • Workplace ethics and professional behaviour
  • Entrepreneurship awareness
  • Higher education guidance

Structure of the 30-Hour Training Programme

The training programme will include both common and department-specific learning modules to ensure students receive relevant technical exposure. While the first 20 hours will be common for all engineering students, the remaining 10 hours will focus on discipline-specific technical skills tailored to individual departments. The programme structure is as follows:

Titan CSR Initiative to Fund the Programme

Anna University has confirmed that the entire career guidance programme will be funded by Titan under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The CSR support is expected to help the university provide quality training resources, expert sessions, and industry-oriented learning opportunities without placing an additional financial burden on students.

Objective of the Career Guidance Programme

The university has introduced this initiative to improve students' preparedness for campus recruitment and professional careers. Before entering the job market, students are expected to benefit from structured guidance in technical knowledge, communication, interview preparation, and workplace behaviour. The programme also aims to:

  • Improve campus placement performance.
  • Strengthen coding and analytical abilities.
  • Develop professional communication skills.
  • Enhance interview and presentation confidence.
  • Promote entrepreneurship and higher education awareness.
  • Build workplace ethics and collaborative skills.

Regular Engineering Classes to Begin from July 01, 2026

Alongside the announcement of the career guidance initiative, Anna University has confirmed that regular classes for second, third, and fourth-year engineering students will commence from July 01, 2026. Students returning for the new academic session can expect the university to gradually implement the career guidance programme for eligible final-year batches as part of the revised academic framework.
