The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has officially launched the third iteration of its flagship initiative, the AICTE-VAANI (Vibrant Advocacy for Advancement and Nurturing of Indian Languages) scheme. The inauguration ceremony was led by AICTE Chairman, Prof. Yogesh Singh, who also introduced the scheme document and an online portal designed for application submissions.

Addressing Language Barriers in Education
One of the pressing issues highlighted by Prof. Singh is the challenge faced by students who complete their schooling in their mother tongue but struggle with the transition to higher education, where English often dominates as the medium of instruction. He pointed out that students tend to perform significantly better when educational concepts are conveyed in their native languages. This observation underscores the need for educational reforms that prioritize linguistic accessibility, ensuring that students are not hindered by language barriers as they pursue advanced studies.
Financial Support and Implementation
To facilitate the objectives of the VAANI scheme, the AICTE has allocated a substantial financial assistance package of Rs. 4 crore annually. This funding will support approximately 200 conferences, seminars, and workshops, with each selected institution receiving Rs. 2 lakh to organize these events. The workshops will span two to three days and will be conducted in 22 regional languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu, and more.
Focus Areas and Application Process
The scheme will encompass 16 thrust areas in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Quantum Technology, Hydrogen Energy, Cybersecurity, Space and Defense, and Agrotech. Applications for participation in the VAANI scheme will be accepted from AICTE-approved institutions through the AICTE-ATAL portal, with the application window open from April 18 to May 17, 2026. Institutions are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance their educational offerings.
